If you’re experiencing latency/stutter issues when using Playpipe on your WiFi network, you may be able to get much better results with a direct wireless connection between your Mac and iOS device.
Note: when using direct connection, your Mac will disconnect from Internet.
This functionality will soon be integrated right into Playpipe Server. Here’s how to set it up manually in the meantime:
- Install LocalDevVPN application from the Mac App Store.
- Launch LocalDevVPN and click Connect – you don’t need to configure any settings and you can close this app after connecting once.
- Open System Setting – General – Sharing – Internet Sharing.
- Set “Share your connection from” to LocalDevVPN and set “To devices using” to Wi-Fi. You will be asked to set network name and password for the new network (do not put your main WiFi connection details here).
- Enable Internet Sharing, the WiFi icon in the menu bar will change indicating the sharing is active.
- Connected to the wireless network you just configured on your iOS device and use Playpipe as usual, enjoying faster, more stable connection!
To turn direct connection on and off, just toggle LocalDevVPN in System Settings – VPN. Internet Sharing should also turn on and off automatically as you do that. Make sure to connect to the correct WiFi network on your iOS device.
